If that name sounds familiar to you, it should. She’s a multi-talented actress who’s been in the industry for a long time now, even though she doesn’t look it. With two decades in the business under her belt, she’s worked on a lot of interesting projects, suffered personal issues, and learned a lot of life lessons. Read on to learn more about this multi-tasking actress and what she’s up to now. You’ll also learn where to find her online.
Gabrielle Union Bio
Gabrielle is like a lot of many actresses in that she’s got simple beginnings. Her wiki lists her as being the daughter of a businessman/army sergeant, and a social worker. It also notes how she was born in Nebraska, and later raised in California. This doesn’t sound like the ideal future of a Hollywood star, but it’s proof that anything is possible if one works hard enough for what they want and refuses to back down.
She attended numerous colleges and dealt with some family issues on her way to fame, and is credited with working as an intern before starting her career by chance. Another great lesson one can learn: when an unusual opportunity comes your way, don’t be afraid to try it. That chance meeting led her to countless roles in film and TV, including some of the biggest teen projects of the time. Bring it On was arguably the role that really cemented her in the public consciousness and the film spawned numerous spin-off movies.
Gabrielle Union Movies and TV Shows
Gabrielle would later trade in the teen-friendly roles for more adult fare, including playing a role in Cadillac Records. She’s gone from comedy to more dramatic roles and done it without missing a beat. Currently, she stars on the BET series Being Mary Jane, where she plays a news anchor who struggles with family issues while trying to keep her career and personal life going. The show began its fourth season in July of 2017.
Besides acting, Gabrielle’s also an author. She recently released a memoir, “We’re Going to Need More Wine,” that detailed her life and career up to that point, including a sexual assault. Gabrielle spoke at length to numerous outlets about the book and how emotional it was to tour in support of the project. According to her, many victims would come to her sharing their stories, something that she felt was an important thing to do.
If all that wasn’t enough, she’s kept herself busy with producing, voice acting, and fashion design. The lesson? Don’t put all your hopes in one thing. Despite all this, she confessed to Glamour magazine she’s learned how important it is to prioritize her relationships over career and pick only the projects that will allow both to flourish.
