We’re all looking for a little change in our lives during the summer time. The laid back vibe of summer is a perfect excuse for us to try something new. Have you ever searched for a quick and easy way to change up your hair?

How To Highlight Your Hair Naturally

An easy way to switch up your look during summer is to naturally highlight your hair. Any hair color, brown, blonde or red, can be highlighted in a natural way to bring out lighter tones. The best part about naturally highlighting your hair is that most techniques force you to spend time in the sun.

Use These 3 Natural Techniques

Highlights are the perfect summer look. In essence, highlights will make you look like a total beach babe. Everyone will be raving over your sun-streaked hair. Professional salon-quality highlights are expensive, hard to maintain, and not healthy for your hair. With our DIY summer highlights, you will be able to get the sun-kissed hair you have been dreaming of without the hassle. The ingredients for our DIY summer highlights are probably already in your kitchen.

Lemons

When life gives you lemons, squeeze them in your hair. A great and effective way to highlight your hair is with lemon juice. This method is so simple, anyone can do it.
  1. Grab a spray bottle
  2. Fill the bottle with ⅔ lemon juice and ⅓ water
  3. spray into your hair thoroughly
    • For more precision use a cotton ball to apply the lemon mixture to strands
    • For enhanced lightening- Spray more lemon mixture
  4. Brush through your hair
  5. Sit in the sun anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour (depending on how light you want your highlights to be)
  6. Wash and dry your hair
  7. Enjoy your show stopping lightened streaks

Honey and Olive Oil

For this hair lightening potion you’ll need something sweet and something salty. Honey and olive oil are key to summer highlights. This hair lightening technique actually simultaneously makes your hair softer.
  1. Heat up ¼ cup of honey
  2. Add ¼  cup of olive oil to the warm honey
  3. Rub the honey and olive oil mixture throughout your hair as if you wear shampooing.
    • For more precision- Apply the mixture to the exact strand you want to highlight.
  4. Let the mixture sit in you hair anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. *No sun needed for this one*  (The longer you let the mixture sit in your hair, the lighter your highlights will be)
  5. Wash and dry your hair
  6. Enjoy your soft and highlighted mane

Chamomile Tea

This tea not only tastes amazing but can make your hair look amazing as well. Who knew that tea could be used as a hair product. Chamomile tea is known for its hair lightening powers.

    • We recommend using 4 tea bags for one pot
  2. Put the tea in the fridge/freezer until it is completely cooled.
  3. In the shower , and pour the tea over your head as if you were washing your hair with the tea.
    • For enhanced precision- only put tea on the strands of hair you wish to highlight
  4. Sit in the sun anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour (depending on how light you want your hair to be)
  5. Wash and dry your hair
